Car accessories and Africa
7th December 2011
In most developing countries, there have been lots of problems experienced by people especially those living in the cities. Africa in particular has been greatly affected by this and the major cities have seen an influx of people moving from the rural areas to the urban centers. These problems affect the high classed, middle classed and low classed with various impacts.
The problems experienced by the high class include:
Those who live a high classed life live in leafy suburbs and at most times have no regard for the people living in lower classes than them. They encounter problems some of their own making and others due to the life styles they lead. Among them include:
- Lifestyle diseases – these come up as a result of the poor eating habits that exhibit and diseases like cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure and others are very rife
- Socials ills – problems relating to drugs are very high among those in this class. This is because most of them can afford while the younger ones don’t find need to work since they are provided for everything and due to idleness, peer pressure makes them engage in this.
The problems experienced by the middle class
This class is made up of people who live an average life. Most of them are either employed or engage in business activities. Most of the problems they face include:
- Insecurity
- Overpopulation
- Lack of employment
- Low housing and overpopulation
- Financial challenges among others
The problems experienced by the low class include:
This class experiences most of the problems in the country and is also known as the low income earners. Their biggest problem is poverty which brings other serious problems. These include
- Unemployment
- Diseases
- Illiteracy
- Poor living conditions among others
To make ends meet, most of these people have resulted to engage in petty trade. It is common to see these people around the major roads selling many things life fruits, car accessories like steering wheel covers and car perfumes, snacks and many others. This has come with new problems like increase in insecurity on the roads since not all hawkers are genuine traders and some engage in pick pocketing and stealing of car corner lights and wheel caps.
It is upon the government to provide opportunities for development especially for the low income earners. This is by having forums where people can be trained on different trades to make them self-reliant and improve their living conditions. The measures that can be taken are for the government to sensitize people on proper farming methods to make them stop migrating from the rural areas to the urban centers and cities. This also ensures that the country is able to sustain its self with food grown locally instead of importing.
The government should also ensure that training on self-sustenance is taught right from the lower level of schooling so that as the citizens grow, they know what economic activities to engage in wherever they are.
